From working on this project, I learned a lot about how to create a solution and solve problems for a government-run citizen service, like Hueston Woods. I learned a lot in the interviews with visitors of Hueston Woods and an employee. I learned about what they struggle with, what they are looking for when going to a state park, and what their expectations are for places like Hueston Woods.
I found using the metric for measuring the speed of the participants completing the tasks on Hueston Woods' website versus on the app prototype I designed to be very useful. It helped me to see that my app was successful in making finding the information on the events, services, and activities offered at Hueston Woods at least a little bit easier. I also learned that it would be useful for visitors of Hueston Woods because it included an interactive map feature that would anyone could use to find hiking trails and filter through the different trails to find one suitable for them or a family with younger children.
I found that my app is easier to use in some areas, but compared to how long it took participants to find certain elements in my app, there are still areas that need improvement. If I were to continue to work on this project, I would need to readjust and possibly reorganize my navigation icons to make it more obvious and easier for users to know what navigation icon leads them to their desired information.
